About twice a year we make a trip up to my family’s cabin in the woods. It is one of my favorite places in the world and when I read this blog entry option I immediately wanted to write about one of my favorite “journeys” that my family and I partake in while at our cabin. I picked a hike in a state park called Vogel. It is a great hike that takes you around a beautiful lake with mountains surrounding you on all sides. It also has a beautiful hike down to a waterfall that is just breathtaking. This was such an interesting project because it really made me visualize my journey around the lake and to the waterfall. It was difficult at times to come up with all fifty visual words to describe this trip so as you can see I started naming some of things that we bring or wear on our hike. It made me really think about what I see when I am going on this journey and how it affects me. I put some of the visual words that described the trip as well, such as exhausting and excitement. I just pictured how I feel during the trip and after the hike is over.

I wrote my haiku about my favorite part of the hike, the walk down to the waterfall. We are able to fish at the bottom of the waterfall which is very exciting. I wrote about that because I think it captures the essence of the whole journey. The goal is to see the beauty of the water falling on the rocks and to enjoy that beauty while fishing. I enjoyed this project because it enabled me to recall one of my favorite memories and it helped me to see them again in such a clear way.
