I decided to watch a candle burn to show the passage of time, because I love candles and burn them all the time. I took a picture of a new candle and a burned candle to show how the wax melts as it burns and the candle gets shorter over time.

This is my trip to school everyday. I take my moped and pass through 2 school zones on my way each morning. Some how no matter when I leave school and come home or when I leave my house...I always manage to hit at least one school zone. I guess I'm not the only one who has to go to school early or stay later some days.

Another school day
This is about the journey from when I wake up in the morning to go to class. Total it is about an hour journey, I take around twenty-five minutes to get ready and it is a thirty-five minute drive to campus. As I look out at my land I yearn to enjoy the beautiful day, instead I am forced to go to class. I make this journey every weekday in a blur of early morning and I am not really aware of the beautiful landscape around me. This morning I looked out and enjoyed the scenery as I watched it in my rear view mirror pulling out of the driveway.

People watching is something that I do when I'm bored. I don't know how long my bus sat at the Reitz, but it didn't feel long because I was drawn into the life of this man. I could only imagine how long he had been sitting there waiting for his bus, thinking he had seen it, and then dejectedly sitting once more to wait. At that point I realized, "Hey, it could be worse...at least I'm on my bus, certain to be going home soon." I am very please with my reflective description...I wasn't expecting it to sound poetic, it just started to flow with the man's emotions.

Haiku:
Alarm clock ringing,
Trying to catch the bus,
Hoping to not get wet
My journey started from the moment I woke up and ended when I was in my classroom seat. During the journey I became aware of all the things I usually see on my morning commute to class. My haiku explains how my morning was. On the way to the bus stop I tried to avoid the falling raindrops and the puddles.
This was a really interesting assignment because it made me stop and take in my surroundings. Even in the morning, when I am trying to get ready in a hurry, I was able to slow down and take in all the visual objects I saw. And on the way to class, even though I was stressing about my test, I was able to relax and focus on my surroundings.

Reflection
I enjoyed this activity! This described my walk from Criser Hall to the Reitz Union today while it was drizzling outside. One thing I noticed was that it was hard to isolate the visual from the other senses. I wanted to attribute most of what I saw to another sense such as the puddles to the sound of splashes. I enjoyed taking in the things going on around me instead of rushing somewhere without looking up beyond my cell phone. It is so easy to walk around on campus without noticing the unique attributes that your surroundings have. I especially enjoyed the quote that went along with this activity. Your surroundings play a lot into how you act and how you feel. If it is gloomy outside, it is very easy to feel gloomy as well.
Kelsey_Everything I Consumed in One Day
In one day I consumed some pretzel sticks, Zaxby's chicken fingers and a Coke, Mochi's new Red Velvet flavored frozen yogurt, my leftover bourbon chicken, and Welch's Sparkling Grape Juice :)
I liked actually drawing everything out, but I did not like realizing that today's meals were not so healthy for me :(
Being able to draw with a white colored pencil was different. I am used to using a lot of color, but this assignment did not allow me to. So this assignment, in a way, required me to step out of the box.
My consumption in a days time

Today's food and beverage consumption consisted of: Breakfast~ 1 cup of coffee and 1 juice box, Lunch~ 1 juice box and a veggie sandwich, Dinner~ 1 piece of fish, 1 serving of steamed broccoli and water.
Honestly, I didn't think I could fit everything I consumed on one page! To my surprise I accomplished the task. I really enjoyed this assignment because all day I paid attention to what I was eating and drinking (which I normally do not do). I really like how the white colored pencil looks on the black paper. For some reason people normally draw on white paper so this was nice to see and create. This assignment is valuable to me because not only was I paying attention to my diet but I was creating art. This would be a great assignment for my future classroom to create awareness for healthy eating habits and engaging in an authentic art assignment. I could have students create drawings such as this one in a folder of everything they consume on a daily basis while incorporating lessons on art technique and even health.
Tatum_Collect Objects From Childhood
I have always loved art, even as a child. I have always enjoyed being creative in any way possible. These utensils remind me of how much I love creating different pictures with all kinds of different methods. In the picture, there are markers, crayons, colored pencils, pastel chalks, and pencils.
This is a stuffed bunny that I have had ever since I was a baby. It was my first stuffed bunny ever. I have always loved rabbits and this stuffed bunny reminds me of that. The bunny has a sweatshirt on that I actually wore when I was little. My mother made it and I wore it a lot. This reminds me of how much my mother loves and cares for me. It is a picture of the stuffed bunny and it says "Tatum's first 'bummy.'" When I was young, that is how I pronounced bunny.
This object reminds me of growing up on an island and working at a waterslide during the summer months. I love being in the sun and at the beach. Working at the waterslide was always a blast and I wish I still could each summer. The owners were like my second family and treated me as such.
The thought of throwing away my art utensils brings a sense of sadness over me. I hate thinking of perfectly good supplies going to waste when there are so many people out there with nothing. I would never want to throw anything like these away. Seeing them in the trash makes me think about throwing away art and the creativity that these utensils help to create.

Walking very fast,
Hoping to beat the cold rain,
Run to catch the bus.
These words describe my journey from Norman to my apartment, including the bus ride home. I make this trip so many times that I usually don’t even notice my surroundings, so today was a nice change of pace. It was nice to intentionally look around and take everything in! It had been a long time since I noticed the beauty in a rainy day. My haiku is about the most stressful part of my journey: trying my hardest to beat the rain and make it to the bus on time, which was especially difficult today! But as I was hurrying, I was still able to appreciate my surroundings and the fact that there is beauty and art, even among the stress.

Haiku:
Orange fence, empty lot
Dirt whirling around the air
Flowers bring new life
My list includes the things I encountered on my walk home from Normal Hall to the inside of my house. It is a walk I make several times a day, but I discovered today that I usually fail to notice the little things. My haiku is about the empty lot that is next to my house. In the beginning of the year, an apartment complex was torn down and since then it has just been sitting there completely empty. It is just a huge field of dirt that is not very appealing to look at or live next to. While walking home today, I noticed something beautiful about this field of dirt that I never saw before. Flowers are blooming all over it! There is now a rainbow of different shades of purple and pink. When I stopped to actually look at the flowers I noticed that there were birds flying around them and singing. Noticing this very simple, yet beautiful thing reminded me that I need to take the time to not only acknowledge, but appreciate my surroundings. I was so focused on the ugliness of the empty lot that I failed to notice its beauty. I am sure this could be said for many things that I pass by everyday as well.

Haiku:
A green curly vine
Wrapping around a brown twig
Quiet in chaos
This is about my journey from my apartment to class and back. It is about a fifteen to twenty minute walk in which a myriad of sights, sounds, and smells create a new and distinct journey from day to day. Even though the path walked is consistent, things change perpetually.
Because this walk takes place on a sidewalk parallel to 13th Street, there is always cacophony created by construction, traffic, and pedestrians. But even in this utter chaos, one can find tranquility in the small things. This poem I created juxtaposes the quiet process of a vine growing on the side of the walkway to the hustling and bustling of 13th Street. This particular vine hangs out over the sidewalk so that one has to move out of the way to keep from getting hit by it. It is easy to ignore the vine and move on with life; however, once one takes the time to observe it, it becomes apparent that there is always peace in times of chaos.

About twice a year we make a trip up to my family’s cabin in the woods. It is one of my favorite places in the world and when I read this blog entry option I immediately wanted to write about one of my favorite “journeys” that my family and I partake in while at our cabin. I picked a hike in a state park called Vogel. It is a great hike that takes you around a beautiful lake with mountains surrounding you on all sides. It also has a beautiful hike down to a waterfall that is just breathtaking. This was such an interesting project because it really made me visualize my journey around the lake and to the waterfall. It was difficult at times to come up with all fifty visual words to describe this trip so as you can see I started naming some of things that we bring or wear on our hike. It made me really think about what I see when I am going on this journey and how it affects me. I put some of the visual words that described the trip as well, such as exhausting and excitement. I just pictured how I feel during the trip and after the hike is over.
I wrote my haiku about my favorite part of the hike, the walk down to the waterfall. We are able to fish at the bottom of the waterfall which is very exciting. I wrote about that because I think it captures the essence of the whole journey. The goal is to see the beauty of the water falling on the rocks and to enjoy that beauty while fishing. I enjoyed this project because it enabled me to recall one of my favorite memories and it helped me to see them again in such a clear way.
